FLORENCE, AL (WZDX) - Authorities are blaming heroin for at least four deaths in the Shoals, possibly a fifth, and countless emergency room visits.
First responders are administering a drug called Narcan that reverses opiates' effects.
Authorities are trying to track down the heroin that's causing the overdoses. So far, they think it's coming from bigger cities.
"Where we are geographically, we are between Memphis Birmingham, Nashville and Jackson, Mississippi. There are several very large cities that are one day away and of course heroin is much more available. There is much more so than it is in north Alabama," said Tim Glover with the Lauderdale County Drug Task Force.
Officials say if you know someone struggling with addiction, get them help.
