HUNTSVILLE, AL (WZDX) - Huntsville city leaders broke ground Wednesday on a new fire station.
Fire Station No. 19 will be located on Old Big Cove Road and will include two apparatus bays and living quarters.
The fire station will cost $2.3 million. Officials say the station will expand the fire coverage to the south side of Hampton Cove and the back side of Green Mountain.
"This station is another component in our public safety master plan," said Mayor Tommy Battle in a news release. "We are focused on improving coverage throughout the city, particularly for annexed properties along our growing corridors."
Huntsville Fire & Rescue Chief Howard W. McFarlen Jr. said the new fire station should be open by spring 2015.
