Walmart Tests 'Savings Catcher' Service at Huntsville Store
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WZDX) - Walmart is advertised as the low price place. Now, a Huntsville Walmart is guaranteeing that promise through a new service called the Savings Catcher.
While the program is still in a testing stage, Huntsville is one of seven test markets in the country chosen to try the Savings Catcher. Huntsville is also the smallest market compared to cities like Dallas, San Diego, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
Walmart representatives say the goal of the savings program is to take away the need to hunt for the lowest prices on food and household items. Customers enter their Walmart receipt number online to catch savings they may have missed from other stores. If a lower price is found, Walmart sends an e-Gift card to make up the difference.
Management and local shoppers at the Owens Cross Roads Walmart are mostly excited about the new service.
"Several of our customers have taken advantage of [Savings Catcher]. The great thing about it is that it is not just a one-time thing. For instance, if you shop twice a week you can enter both receipts and it will just be a rolling total. You don't have to redeem it all at once," said Chris Tibb, the assistant manager at the Owens Cross Roads Walmart.
"I spend so much time looking for coupons. If I could just take that out and just come in and know that I'm going to be doing good, I can't see why anybody wouldn't use it," said Wanda Matthias.
One man said he did not like giving out his e-mail, so the service did not appeal to him. Another woman did not like the 72-hour waiting period.

Walmart representatives said they do not have a set date to release the Savings Catcher as a national service, but it is something that they want to do.
