GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WZDX) - A wounded soldier is back home in Guntersville for good and he's greeted by a brand new house.
Sergeant Corey Garmon was severely wounded in Afghanistan two years ago. Now, volunteers from six states are building Garmon and his family a new home. The goal is to turn over the home to them mortgage free.
"How grateful I am to live in this country where people care for you," said Garmon.
"It's just important to show our vets and troops that we care. We don't want a repeat of past incidents where our veterans came home are were not welcomed. I want to make sure our veterans are welcomed home," said Salvador Cetrone, a volunteer from Louisiana.
Workers are hoping to have the new home built by the end of July.
