Barricades in Place if Roads Get Slick

Posted: Updated:

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WZDX) - Road closures are possible overnight if the temperatures drop to a certain level.

Road crews were busy Tuesday during the day placing barricades near Memorial Parkway overpasses, I-565 overpasses and along higher-altitude roads like Bankhead Parkway and Cecil Ashburn Drive. The barriers will be ready if icy spots develop on the roads Tuesday night.

"The temperature drops, overpasses freeze. So, the EMS will call the shot on it to the police. Then the police will come and set the barricades up. Right now we are just setting them up for the police," said Raymon Holloway with Huntsville Utilities.

Crews said the barricades usually start going up when the temperature gets around 30 degrees.

Meanwhile, a winter storm is creeping up on the East Coast that could result in hundreds of flight delays.

Huntsville International Airport officials say its best to check the status of your flight before you come in to know ahead of time if your plane is delayed.
