Commission Eliminates EMA Deputy Director Position
LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WZDX) - The Lawrence County commission voted to eliminate its Deputy Director position at its emergency management agency.
Brenda Morgan held the position for the past nine years, but the county placed her on disciplinary leave without pay in October of 2013. Morgan recently filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
She claims the commission discriminated against her because of her gender and a perceived disability.
"Looking at our budgets, it's not going to be good for the next foreseeable future. Every person in that department signed a letter in July stating that they could run the office with two," said Lawrence County Commission Chairman Prentis Davis.
The commission will eliminate the position December 3rd.
