A Tearful Moss Apologizes to Family in Court

Posted: Updated:

LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WZDX) - The jury is now deliberating in the trial of State Trooper Heath Moss.

Moss is charged with two counts of criminal negligent homicide for a 2011 wreck that killed Sarah and Jamie Gossett.

In court on Wednesday, Moss became emotional when he apologized to the Gossett family.

Moss testified he attempted to pass the Gossett's car on Lucas Ferry Road when it started to turn left in front of him. He said he turned to the right trying to avoid the car.

Moss told the District Attorney that he never looked at his speed, but he did agree with the black box report from his patrol car that showed he was going 120 miles-per-hour just 20 seconds before the wreck.

The jury will continue deliberations at 9:00 in the morning.
