Vina High School Bringing in Counselors

Posted: Updated:

Vina, Ala. (WZDX) -- Counselors are now being brought in to a Franklin County school where two teachers were arrested in less than a week.

Vina High School PE teacher Sonny Tibbs and boys basketball coach Brian Keeton are each accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Both men are suspended with pay and are out on bond.

Counselors and administrators are planning an awareness program.

"I want the parents to feel that our school at Vina and all our Franklin County schools are for their students to attend and we're going to do everything that we can do to make that happen," said Superintendent Gary Williams.

In 2011, former Vina teacher Kimberly Bynum was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, but the case was dismissed in 2013 after Bynum married the student.
