Dozens gathered at Florence High School for the city's first Suicide Prevention Walk. The walk is one of seven happening in the state this year.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is hosting all of the events. Their goal is to raise awareness about suicide and depression. Those participating in the walks also seeking support from each other. Lisa Dunn, Area Director for the Foundation, says,"I have many survivors tell me that its comforting to be around other people that have experienced a similar type loss, so I hope it's that for them. I hope it's a way for them to honor their loved ones."
Those participating in the walk released balloons as a symbol that they will never forget loved ones they have lost to suicide. The event in Florence raised more than $3,000.
