As the government shuts down, open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act begins.
Starting January 1st, most Americans will be required to have health insurance and as of now, they can enroll for that health insurance online.
The Federal Health Exchange is open for business. Americans can now log on to healthcare.gov to find and purchase the right health care premium for them. However, not all the bugs are worked out, and many people trying to get insurance this first time are running into problems.
Fred Coffey of Sirote & Permutte, Attorney, said, "The website itself said that they were having an unusual amount of inquiries. which I can only imagine, but also as I attempted to navigate through the website, I kept getting error messages, so some of it is glitches in the system that eventually will be corrected."
Some of the most notable changes will go into effect January 1st, when the policies kick in, that is, if Congress does not delay it, as the Affordable Care Act continues to be a point of disagreement in talks to stop the government shutdown.
