MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WZDX) - The father of Discovery Middle School shooter Hammad Memon has been arrested again -- this time for stealing from Medicaid.
Iqbal Ahmed Memon, 51, is charged with two counts of felony theft. He was indicted during a Montgomery County grand jury session in June, according to the Alabama Attorney General's office, and is accused of taking more than $7,000 from the Alabama Medicaid Agency.
Memon was booked into jail Wednesday morning. Bond was set at $10,000.
Evidence against Memon was presented after an investigation by Attorney General Luther Strange's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, which acted on a referral from the state Medicaid's Program Integrity Division. No other details were given.
Memon faces two to 20 years in prison and up to $120,000 in fines if convicted on the charges.
Iqbal Memon already has a jury trial set for Aug. 5 in connection with his son's school shooting case. He and Hammad Memon's mother, Safia, are both charged with hindering prosecution. Authorities said they tried to help their son flee the country before he could be tried for the February 2010 school shooting that killed 14-year-old Todd Brown.
