Injured dog discovered in Madison dumpster

Posted: Updated:

MADISON, Ala. (WZDX) - Madison animal control officers rescued a pit bull found in a dumpster Tuesday.

The Madison Police Department reports the dog was lethargic and suffering from puncture wounds when it was discovered in a commercial dumpster behind the Spencer Square strip mall Tuesday afternoon. Animal control officers rescued the dog and took it to a veterinarian's office where it was nursed back to health.

The veterinarian and animal control officers believe the three-year-old pit bull, whose ears had been cut off, was being raised or trained to fight.

The dog, named Jedi by caregivers and animal control officers, was deemed healthy enough to return to the Madison Animal Shelter Wednesday morning. Madison Animal Control is working with the Madison Animal Rescue Foundation to place the dog with an organization that specializes in working with rescued pit bulls.

The Madison Police Department is asking for anyone with information about this dog or who may be able to identify the suspect to call the Madison Police at 256-722-7190.
