Lawrence County Inmate Admits to Killing 30 People

Posted: Updated:

LAWRENCE COUNTY Ala. (WZDX) - A Lawrence County inmate admits to killing more than 30 people over the past 20 years.

Jose Manuel Martinez was arrested last week at the U.S./Mexican border and transported back to Lawrence County. He was wanted in connection with the March 4th murder of Jose Ruiz.

Since his arrest new information has come up about his connection to multiple murders in Florida and California over the last decade.

Investigators say it is possible Martinez was working as a drug related hit-man.

Investigations are already getting underway for 13 of the more than 30 murders Martinez has admitted too.

"I think there is going to probably be a lot more as we go on and as we keep pulling it out of him, what he has done," Sheriff Gene Mitchell said.

Martinez is being held in the Lawrence County Jail. Investigators say he has been cooperative so far.
