MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WZDX) - The mother of Discovery Middle School shooter Hammad Memon has pleaded guilty to attempting to help her son flee the country.
According to court documents filed Tuesday, Safia Memon pleaded guilty to first degree attempted hindering prosecution. Memon's plea agreement includes a 364-day prison sentence and 364 days probation. She was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and other restitution and court costs.
Hammad Memon pleaded guilty May 28 to killing classmate Todd Brown at in the hall at Discovery Middle in February 2010. He received a 30-year sentence.
Hammad and Safia Memon were arrested in Dallas, Texas, in April 2012. Police said both had Pakistani passports and were trying to leave the country.
