HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WZDX) For many, a chance to compete in a reality competition is a once in a lifetime opportunity. But, for Novien Yarber it's just a day in the life.
Thousands of dance hopefuls flocks to So You Think You Can Dance auditions every year. For one former Tennessee Valley resident this isn't the first.
Contestant Novien Yarber says, "I auditioned for So you think before. in season 7 and season 9."
But this year, is his time to shine. Yarber is a 2010 graduate of Bob Jones High School. On Tuesday, Yarber received a ticket straight to Las Vegas after his audition on Season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance.
"I guess maturing and being exposed to more. I traveled more this past year and seeing other dancers and really taking it all in. It really helped me form who I was as a dancer," explains Yarber.
Yarber's only been on the dance floor for 6 years, a short time to accomplish some big moves. Even though he received positive reviews from the judges, it appears his adrenaline took over.
"I was a blur like let me tell you. Everyone's comments on Facebook and stuff, I can't believe Mary yelled for you and I'm like if she yelled I must have blacked out," says Yarber when he looks back on the audition.
Yarber also inspires other dancers right here in Huntsville.
"I want to become like him since I was 8, I think. And he inspired to me keep on trying and never give up," explains Erica.
Erica dances at the Dance Theater of Huntsville. She's 12 years old and ready to a star.
"That's when I realized that I want to do what I really want to do and the only way to do that is practice and practice makes perfect and that's what's got me here today," she says.
