HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WZDX) - "They were both 19 and they informed us that they worked at a particular strip club in Huntsville," says Alabama State Senator Shadrack McGill.
When two strippers showed up at the home McGill home back in 2010, Heather McGill was not happy. Her husband Shadrack was, at the time, a candidate for the Alabama Senate, District 8. Senator McGill (R-District 8) says once he was elected, the solicitation did not end.
"Shortly after becoming an elected official I guess my Facebook was hijacked several times, they refer to it as being hijacked, where a girl will send you a picture and say something to the effect of, ‘had a great time with Senator McGill last night,'" he said.
He says the problem has actually gotten worse as election season nears. Monday June 3rd Heather McGill decided she had had enough. Heather decided to fight fire with fire going to his Facebook page and demanding that the postings stop.
"I have been silent for long enough!! NO MORE!" she wrote. "Multiple times since being in office he has gotten emails from women (who may not even be real) inviting him to explore, also sending pictures of themselves. NO MORE!!!"
Less than 24 hours later that post has more than 120 comments almost all of them supporting Heather and her post.
"I appreciate her, her wisdom, and her foresight in stepping forth and making that decision," said Senator McGill. "I think she done it very well she is a wise woman."
He says his wife and secretary monitor his page so they often see the posts before he does, but they are not the only people who are subjected to oftentimes suggestive content, his children have also seen the photos and accusations.
"I'll just say that they have seen some things that we have had to explain, and address, and try to educate them on."
And that, he says, needs to stop.
"I'm for putting forth the effort to try to track some of these folks down, see who they are, why they are doing it, and holding them accountable for it."
Heather McGill's Facebook post on her husband's account:
Attention Facebook: This is Heather McGill (senator McGills wife) for anyone that does not know that. This may go viral and if so my prayer is that it strengthens marriages and families across this district, our state, and our country! I am very blessed to be the wife of a God fearing, hard working, ministry minded, loving father and husband and it is not just my right but my duty to lovingly serve him by protecting him! I have been silent for long enough!! NO MORE! Multiple times since being in office he has gotten emails from women (who may not even be real) inviting him to explore, also sending pictures of themselves. NO MORE!!! It is a shame that people are so heartless that they would try to split up families. We have children that look at our face books from time to time! Shame on you! You know who you are. Next time everyone will know who you are!! For I will publicly share your name before we "unfriend" you. I love my husband and my children too much to sit here and allow this to go on and will not give the enemy anymore foothold into my family! This is the "behind the scenes" garbage that political life brings. I will not turn a blind eye to it any longer! I remember years ago my Pastors wife standing before the congregation preaching to the young women about their dress which had gotten out of hand and she boldly stood before them and spoke the truth. I boldly stand before you today and declare that I will stand beside my husband, support him, love him, and protect him at ALL cost!!!! Those of you who know who you are consider yourself warned! Those of you who understand my heart, thank you for listening and may God bless your families!
