BOAZ, Ala. (WZDX) - A grandmother was arrested Monday after police said she left a small child unattended in a car.
According to Boaz police, they received a call to check on a child in a car at Walmart Monday. The officer who responded saw the child sweating in a car seat inside the car with the windows up.
Police said the child's grandmother, Angela Parrish Coffey, 45, Albertville, walked up as the officer was about to force entry into the car.
Investigators took the child, who they said was soaked in sweat, and contacted the Department of Human Resources. The child was then turned over to a great-grandmother.
Police charged Coffey with reckless endangerment. When they inventoried the car's contents, police said they found medication in a bottle that was not labeled. Coffey also was charged with illegal possession of prescription drugs.
