DECATUR, Ala. (WZDX) - Wednesday's tribute to fallen officers in Morgan County has special meaning for a Decatur man.

Local historian Neal Hudson tracked down two fallen officers, whose names were on the list for the first time in more than a century.

Decatur police officer Billy Baber was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1905. One year later, fellow officer Jesse Jones was also killed in the line of duty.

Neal Hudson says he was thrilled as the officers names were read during the fallen officers ceremony. "Its tremendously important that they find a place of honor and be honored every year. I want to give back to the citizens of Decatur and police department and all the law officers in Decatur," Hudson said.

Neal Hudson is a historian for his local Masonic lodge. Officer Jones was a Mason. Hudson was doing research and discovered the officers stories and took his information to the police, who added the officers names to the ceremony.
