LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WZDX) - Authorities charged a man with manslaughter Monday afternoon for a Sunday night shooting at a home in Trinity.
Brandon Lorne Barnes, 39, is charged with killing Daniel "Tojo" Peoples, 40, of Moulton after an argument. Peoples was shot at Barnes' home on County Road 345 around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
According to Sheriff Gene Mitchell, Peoples was at Barnes' home with his common law wife and her son, and alcohol was consumed at the home. At some point, Mitchell said the two men got into an argument about inappropriate comments made towards Barnes' wife. Mitchell says the argument led to Peoples being shot once in the chest with a .22-caliber riffle.
"According to all accounts, plus the things we saw at the scene, lead us to believe that there was a lot of drinking going on and it just led to a shooting" says Mitchell.
Barnes was taken into custody at the scene without incident and was questioned Monday morning. He is in the Lawrence County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
