HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WZDX)-The Huntsville Speedway is getting ready for a new season.
The property is now under new ownership, so workers are painting the walls, upgrading the VIP boxes, and putting down chemicals to improve the track for racers. Local racer Mitchell Walls appreciates the renovation. "It's great for us car racers and we appreciate the work being done," Walls said.
Mitchell Walls has been racing for ten years as a super truck driver. He has 30 wins in his career and two championships at the Huntsville Speedway.
"I'm from Laceys Spring right across the river. And it's cool when you have your family and friends come here and support you. When you grow up and that's something you want to do it's pretty neat when you can get out here and you get to race in front of the crowd so it's pretty fun," Walls said.
Walls says racing in NASCAR has always been his dream. This coming weekend he will be watching the Aaron's 499 in Talladega.
"It's better to me than watching the Super Bowl. I've been around racing all my life and you come over here on Fridays and Saturdays. But on Sundays, you're always at home watching NASCAR." Walls said.
The season for the Huntsville Speedway begins on May 11th. Its a Saturday race only. Gates open at 3pm. Admission is ten dollars for adults and five dollars for kids.
