HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WZDX) - Almost two months after Jacob Shaffer pleaded guilty to murdering a man at a Huntsville business, a Madison County jury found him guilty of capital murder Monday afternoon.
Although Shaffer pleaded guilty to capital murder March 8th, a trial was required under Alabama law to present the evidence against him.
Shaffer was charged with beating Sidney Dempsey to death at his Huntsville business in 2009. Shaffer then traveled to Lincoln County, Tenn., where he killed his estranged wife and four other people.
Shaffer is serving five life sentences in Tennessee for the Lincoln County murders. His plea in March took the death penalty off the table.
During the trial, prosecutors said Shaffer used a stun gun on Dempsey before strangling him, beating him and hiding the body in an empty 55-gallon drum.
