COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WZDX) - Opening arguments in the murder trial of Ronald Weems are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in a Colbert County courtroom.
On Monday, six men and six women were chosen for the jury, with one alternate.
Weems, 34, is accused of killing Amanda Taylor in his Muscle Shoals basement in October 2011, cutting off her fingers and toes and dumping her body in a field.
Taylor's family said they are glad to see the trial moving forward.
"It's been a long time coming," said Jimmy Taylor. "At the end of this, we'll finally have some closure. We're looking forward to seeing justice done. We're glad that it's happening now, because the more time that passes, the more people forget and the stronger the defense's case gets."
The trial is expected to last throughout the week.
