HUNTSVILLE Ala. (WZDX) - Huntsville could soon be trending on Twitter if the city wins the 2013 Social Media Tourism Symposium.
If Huntsville wins, 300 to 400 social media enthusiasts will come to Huntsville in November, and they will be blogging, tweeting, and Facebook posting about what makes the city special.
Before that can happen, Huntsville must beat Cleveland in voting Thursday to make it to the final round, where the Rocket City would face off against Missoula.
"It would mean an economic boost to our community. It would also mean a ton of valuable social media exposure. Last year's winner was El Paso, and they received 7000 tweets and 700 instagram photos that reached over ten million people. We would love that kind of online exposure," said Jessica Carlton, with the Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The way to help Huntsville win is to vote Thursday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. at facebook.com/sometourism.
The Visitors Bureau will have street teams in place tomorrow at Bridge Street, Parkway Place Mall and UAHuntsville with iPads on hand that people can use to vote.
