ALBERTVILLE, Ala - Strong winds left a path of destruction on Highway 431 in the city of Albertville.
"It was very scary. We all covered out ears. It was extremely loud," Jessica Hill said.
The storm caused extensive damage to multiple businesses. Roofs were ripped off and sent flying across the street. Signs were knocked over, and powers lines were down. Thomas Rains' recently remodeled building was among those hit.
"I was really shocked. I didn't expect this. At home it just rained. We didn't know it had come a storm," Rains said.
Emergency crews closed Highway 431 for hours as they worked to clean up the debris.
"The EMA is here trying to asses the damage," Albertville Police Officer, Jamie Smith said.
Wilson's Barbeque suffered damage when the roof of the building next door landed on their business.
"Their roof flew onto us, all the cars and our roof. There was a lady in the drive thru and she was stuck. They came and got her. Everybody was ok, though," employee Jessica Hill said.
According to Albertville Police only minor injuries have been reported. It is currently unknown if the damage was caused by a tornado or strong winds.
