New Cop Cams for Hollywood Police

Police in Jackson County have some new high-tech equipment to catch criminals.

The Hollywood Police Department has four new pairs of sunglasses. But what's connected to them is helping officers do their job. The department uses four mini cameras with microphones attached.

Police Chief Jason Hepler says the Taser Axon Flex Cameras can record whatever the officers see or hear as they respond to a crime. "It helps build the officer's case for probable cause, and it shows what the officer saw," Hepler said. "If someone makes an accusation against the officer, there's a camera right there that shows everything the officer's doing. So it protects us from civil cases and also protects the officers credibility."

The new cameras cost $1,000 each. TVA tax money helped to pay for the devices.
