DECATUR, Ala.-More and more businesses are pouring into the River City and people in Decatur are thrilled with the new shopping and dining options.

A new theater, restaurant, and a shopping hot spot have all opened in the past week and people say they are thrilled with the economic growth and look forward to making a few less trips to Huntsville.

An Art Center recently opened downtown and a Mellow Mushroom opened on Monday. The restaurant is located on 2nd Avenue and further boosts the economic upswing going on in the town. On Wednesday, a brand new Kohl's opened to the delight of shoppers throughout the area and the planning commission recently approved an entertainment district that will encompass 2nd Avenue and Bank Street.

"Oh it's great for our economy. We have needed this for a long time," said Jessica Magnum while dining at the Mellow Mushroom, "[We are] just looking forward to more and more businesses coming on board," she continued.

Gil Aldric has lived in the area for years and says he is hopeful this is only the beginning of the economic upswing.

"Now if we could just get a few more things that Huntsville has got we will be alright," he said, "Mellow Mushroom is going to be a cornerstone for this, I think."

As far as the proposed entertainment district goes, the Planning Commission has given their stamp of approval but the City Council still must sign off on it.
