Free program provides discounted prescriptions and healthcare services for constituents while generating revenue for participating counties
Jackson, Miss. (PRWEB) March 04, 2013
The Mississippi Association of Supervisors (MAS) announced today that it has endorsed the Coast2Coast Rx discount prescription program. Boards of Supervisors in 11 Mississippi counties have vetted and approved the program which is free to both counties and citizens. The program also has the distinction of creating revenue for public programs in participating counties.
The free discount program allows residents to save money on their prescriptions and other health care services while avoiding membership paperwork or fees. Coast2Coast Rx card’s mission is to provide savings on thousands of prescription drugs while improving health outcomes, and to that end the card is available with no restrictions on age, income status, or existing health conditions. And because $1.25 is generated for the participating county each time the card is used to fill a prescription, the Coast2Coast Rx card has the ability to help support public programs and services. These comprehensive benefits are in line with the purpose of MAS—in part, to maintain a statewide association for the purpose of advancing the general welfare of Mississippi counties, explained Derrick Surrette, Executive Director of the MAS.
“We aim to deliver effective programs and services that can help county officials improve the quality of life for their constituents; Coast2Coast Rx fits the bill by helping consumers improve their health and finances with this easy-to-use, free card,” said Surrette. “Given that the Coast2Coast Rx is the only discount prescription card that helps us reinvest in our communities every time it’s used to fill a prescription, our decision to endorse the program—and encourage Mississippi’s county supervisors to do the same—was an easy one.”
With no eligibility requirements, all consumers can use the card for its significant savings: those without health insurance, the underinsured, those paying high deductibles or whose insurance excludes certain prescriptions, and in some instances the card can be used to offset the Medicare Part D “donut hole.” The program includes more than 60,000 brand name or generic drugs, allowing consumers to save up to 75 percent at 59,000-plus participating pharmacies, which includes major chains and many independent establishments. Cardholders are also able to use the card for partner programs that offer discounted rates on certain dental, vision, hearing, and lab services, diabetes supplies, and even some veterinary services and pet prescriptions.
“The adoption of the Coast2Coast Rx card in 11 Mississippi counties has already provided savings benefits and revenue for consumers and their communities, but we believe that promoting awareness and use of the card will only increase the positive impact in terms of health and financial benefits,” said Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the providers of the Coast2Coast Rx card. “As one of about 300 governmental entities that have endorsed the Coast2Coast Rx card, our partnership with the Mississippi Association of Supervisors validates the need for this program in Mississippi and our commitment to make it available statewide.”
