Fired police Chief Greg Ray, who was terminated by Sheffield's mayor in October, has been reinstated by the city's Civil Service Board.
Mayor Ian Sanford had asked Ray to make suggested improvements within the department and asked him to resign when he felt the improvements hadn't been made. When Ray refused to resign, Sanford fired him.
During Ray's civil service hearing last month, Sanford said he was not aware that some of the complaints he had listed as reasons for termination had been taken care of.
During his hearing, Ray said if allowed to remain chief, he would go above and beyond to work with city leaders and the community on issues and concerns.
