Shoals Man Makes it to Hollywood on American Idol

Posted: Updated:

Micah Walley has been leading worship at the Ark Outreach Ministries in Florence for the last 5 years. But just recently he was in the bright lights of Hollywood, singing in front of Randy, Niki, Mariah and Keith.

Walley won a pass to sing for the judges at the Disney American Idol experience in January 2012. He made the trip to audition in Baton Rouge with 10,000 other people. After hearing him sing "Fix You" by Coldplay, all four judges said yes. "It was really an amazing experience to be able to do what so many people dreamed to do their whole life through growing up and watching American Idol and seeing people run out and have the golden ticket to Hollywood. I'd never thought that would actually happen. And when it did, it was just really surreal," says Walley.

He was one of about 130 guys on the road to Hollywood for Idol. The show's organizers flew him out to L.A. where he performed for two days. "When I walked out there, I just sang and left it all out there. So, I wasn't nervous. I was actually very excited," says Walley.

Although he was cut, he says he received a lot of positive feedback. "It has definitely helped me in my music career, just figuring out really what I want to do with my music and my life. And, it taught me so much, just this whole experience, and I'm very grateful for it," he says.

Those who want to hear more of Walley's music can download song by his band Fervent Worship on iTunes.
