A burglary suspect was taken to Huntsville Hospital late Thursday morning after being shot by Limestone County deputies.
Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said the chase began in Limestone County after deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle matching the description of one belonging to a burglary suspect. A woman had called authorities earlier in the day after seeing a man with pantyhose on his head trying to break into her home, Blakely said.
Deputies chased the vehicle over into Madison County, where Blakely said the suspect rammed two deputy vehicles on Jeff Road near Carter's Gin Road, prompting deputies to open fire.
The suspect's name and condition have not been released.
Blakely said deputies found items in the suspect's vehicle that link him to other burglaries in the Limestone County area.
Jeff Road at Carters Gin Road is blocked, and the Madison County Sheriff's Office is asking people to avoid the area.
Sparkman Middle School was briefly locked down as a precaution, according to a district spokesperson.
