Police digging at a home on Hunterwood Drive are looking for the body of an infant after receiving a tip one may have been buried there.
Russellville police and firefighters, Alabama Bureau of Investigation agents, and officials from the state Fire Marshal's office brought digging equipment to the home of Mark Windham today after receiving a tip that a woman who lived there had given birth and said the baby died shortly afterward.
Windham, a convicted sex offender, committed suicide a few weeks ago.
Police say four cadaver dogs on the property found a spot of interest Wednesday in a burn pile on the side of the house, so they obtained a search warrant to dig on the property and see if there was any evidence to support the tip.
Police Chief Chris Hargett said the alleged incident could have happened anytime from 2009 to a few months ago. Investigators have taken some items of interest from the home and are trying to track down people suspected of being involved.
