A man was arrested after police say he stole several vehicles to escape, including an ambulance.
Boaz Police say Matthew Todd, 24, Boaz was involved in an accident Jan. 25 in Etowah County and charged with driving under the influence. Todd was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police say Todd stole an ambulance and left the hospital just before midnight. After searching places he may have gone, police say they found the ambulance on Bernard Street in Boaz around 4:30 a.m.
Police believe Todd stole another vehicle in the area and wrecked it in the Sardis area. From there, they say Todd entered a barn and tried to saddle a horse, but apparently did not know how to put the saddle on.
Todd returned to the hospital for more treatment the next afternoon and was arrested. He is charged with burglary and two counts of auto theft.
Todd was booked into the Marshall County Jail with a $7,500 bond.
