"It looked like he had been dead for some time," said Leonard Morton. He and his girlfriend arrived at his girlfriend's brother's house shortly before noon Wednesday and discovered a grizzly scene.
"She started hollering and screaming at me and I come in the house and I seen him," he said.
Her brother was dead. Police have not released the name but friends and family members say the victim is 69 year-old William Ivey. Morton says it looked like there had been a struggle.
"He was in the living room on the couch and it looked like some cushions had been knocked off the couch."
Huntsville police responded to the scene on Bob Wallace Avenue shortly after 12:00pm. Huntsville Police Spokesman Harry Hobbs says this case is being investigated as a homicide but it is not related to the shooting that happened last night outside a recording studio on Sparkman Drive.
"Over the last couple of days there have been a few shootings and a homicide and we want our public to know that none of these cases right now are connected and our officers are working diligently to solve each case," said Hobbs.
Ivey had rented the home for years. His landlord says he had very few visitors and, as far as she knows, no enemies.
The cause of death has not been released; the body will soon undergo an autopsy. If you have any information about this crime you are asked to contact Huntsville Police at 256-722-7100.
