Chizik Fired, Local Fans React

Auburn fans have had their share of disappointments this football season. Saturday's Iron Bowl was no exception.

"It was depressing. It was expected, but it was way worse than I hoped for. Honestly, I stopped watching after halftime to relieve some stress," Auburn fan Justin Neal said.

The team went from winning the National Championship in 2010 to a winless SEC season in 2012, all under the leadership of head coach Gene Chizik.

"I mean, he brought us the National Championship, but other than that he really didn't do much for us," fan Stephen Yarbrough said.

"It was a losing season. Last season was miserable too, so it's time for him to leave and we need to find somebody else that can build our team back," said Auburn student Haley Stephens.

Sunday, Chizik was fired as Auburn's coach, after his team's scoreless performance in the Iron Bowl.

"After the game yesterday I think it was the right thing. I mean, being smacked 49-0 is kind of disappointing," William Conner said.

The Tigers have had the worst two year slide after winning a national title on record, confirmation to fans that it is time for Chizik to go.

"Chizik stopped caring about the boys, I think, and he put the curfew rule on them with security every night at 11p.m. I think they just didn't respect each other anymore and the players didn't respect him," Stephens said.

With Chizik gone fans are optimistic about what the future holds.

"I am sure anybody they hire, it will be better next year than it was this year," Neal said.
