An overnight accident in Hazel Green claimed 3 lives and injured two others.
Pam Layne has lived on Mulberry Road for thirty years. She says she and other residents have been trying to get a dangerous curve on that road fixed for years. "Maybe they could straighten up the curve some, so if they come around the curve faster, they won't be over in somebody else's lane," Layne said.
Around 11:30 Sunday night, two vehicles were involved in the wreck. One of the cars was engulfed in flames, trapping four people inside. One person was able to escape. The other three died at the scene. 45-year-old Wendy Staton was driving the other car and was taken to the hospital with several broken bones.
Her mother, Peggy Guffey, says her daughters guardian angel was with her. "Both her legs are broke. She has broken ribs and she's on a ventilator," Guffey said.
The speed limit on Mulberry Road is 35 miles per hour. But Pam Layne says most drivers travel at 50 to 60.
