Tavares Fletcher, who is already serving a life sentence for attempted murder, pleaded guilty to capital murder Wednesday.
Fletcher pleaded guilty in the August 2008 shooting death of Regions Bank employee Jerome Richard. Assistant District Attorney Bill Starnes said the plea deal Fletcher took means the state won't seek the death penalty.
Because the capital murder charge still requires evidence against him to be presented to a jury, Fletcher will have a small jury trial beginning Monday morning.
In August 2011, Fletcher was sentenced to life for attempted murder and robbery for shooting a gymnastics teacher in the face in 2009 on Leeman Ferry Road.
Fletcher faces another life sentence.
