The Decatur Police Special Response Unit will soon have new personal safety gear. The 3M Corporation awarded the Decatur Police Department with a $3000 dollar community grant to purchase the safety equipment including bullet proof vests and gas masks.
Decatur Police Chief Ed Taylor says this money will help supplement a tight budget. "There is a tremendous amount of specialized equipment that increases officer safety and enables us to keep our citizens safer" says Chief Taylor. "It's a constant struggle to fund them correctly."
3M awards several grants each year to organizations in the community.
