Albertville police say they expect to charge a woman this afternoon with criminally negligent homicide in the death of her 2-year-old grandson, who was struck by a vehicle Wednesday.
Police say they arrested Rebecca Jane Elrod, 52, Albertville, Wednesday after the incident for driving under the influence.
Brayden Lucas Daniel was struck by a Ford Explorer in front of his home on Diane Avenue Wednesday afternoon. He was taken to Marshall Medical Center South, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say they believe Elrod was under the influence of prescription medication at the time of the accident. A blood sample was drawn at a local hospital under a court order.
Elrod is currently in the Albertville City Jail. No bond has been set.
