Huntsville officials unveiled a new master plan for John Hunt Park Wednesday that includes a new playground, expanded facilities and more parking.
The new plan for the 387-acre park on Airport Road includes expanding the ice complex, the tennis complex, multi-use fields and parking for those facilities. It also includes a 15-acre festival area complete with a multipurpose building, plaza, outdoor amphitheater, pavilions and picnic facilities and walking and jogging trails.
To pay for the plan's implementation, city officials say they are looking at various sources of revenue like sale of city property, earmarked sales tax revenues, private partnerships and naming opportunities. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said the entire project will take several years to complete.
City officials have started a website to get public comments about John Hunt Park's redevelopment at www.ImagineHuntsville.com.
