The Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners voted Wednesday afternoon to reject a proposed change that would have closed nonprofit spay and neuter clinics in the state.
The proposed change would have prohibited non-veterinarians, such as a nonprofit board of directors, to supply a facility or equipment to a veterinarian. It would also have kept non-veterinarians from hiring a veterinarian or a veterinarian technician.
The board decided against the rule change after a public hearing in Montgomery.
