The first firefighter in Madison was laid to rest Wednesday morning.
Services for former Chief Charles Wallace were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Madison Church of Christ. The procession passed the Madison fire station in route to the cemetery.
Madison fire and rescue gave Chief Wallace a full fire department funeral.
"Chief Wallace deserves this, these honors that we're paying him today; and then some, for what he's done for this community and establishing this fire department," said Captain Joe Cobble.
Wallace passed away Sept. 9. He spent 30 years with the fire department, retiring in 1999.
