Madison County Health Department officials say there is a case of West Nile virus in Madison County, but the person did not get the virus in Alabama.
Dr. Debra Williams with the Madison County Health Department said the 59-year-old man suffering from the virus told them he contracted it while in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, there have been 18 confirmed cases of West Nile in Alabama, 12 of them severe. There has been one death in the state.
