A week of tight races with a variety of weather conditions at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Sardinia brought a new triumph for Esimit Europa 2 and crowned her as the best Maxi racing yacht at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. In the competition of 34 yachts of up to 66 meters in length which showcased luxurious as well as some of the most technologically advanced yachts in the world, Esimit Europa 2 took line honours at all four races and won also in her class. It was not an easy job for the Esimit Sailing Team, since yacht’s high rating forced the 18-member European crew to push over the limits every single day to be ahead of the first-class competitors with much lower rating. Yet another truly impressive result for Igor Simcic’s highly professional team, after setting new course record at the Giraglia Rolex Cup, smashing the Wally record Monaco – Porto Cervo and taking line honours at the Palermo – Monte Carlo regatta.

“I am very happy with the result, as both the yacht and the crew have shown that they are extremely well prepared not just for offshore, but also for inshore racing. Before coming to the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, we were aware of the fact that we will have to execute everything perfectly, not just to be the first across the finish line, but also to win on corrected time. Something which due to high rating seemed impossible had become real. The synergy among the crew members is excellent and it clearly shows that all the investments in Esimit Europa 2 paid off very well. Congratulations to the boys, they did a fantastic job,” said Igor Simcic, founder of the Esimit Europa project.

Sardinian city Porto Cervo hosted a fleet of 34 best maxi yachts from all over the world. In a series of daily races, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with the International Maxi Association, organizers carried out 4 races with distances from 15 to 38 nautical miles, while 2 were abandoned due to unsuitable weather conditions.

“It was a very exciting week with changing weather conditions which included very calm weather as well as extremely strong winds and storms. We were closely monitoring wind conditions, often taking final decisions in terms of sails selection and tactics just minutes before the start. By performing clean and fast manoeuvres, finding perfect routes in between the islands and avoiding reefs at the same time, we were fast enough to win on corrected time as well. We are particularly happy about that. We have a few more regattas ahead of us this season, in which we see new opportunities to prove ourselves,” stated Jochen Schümann, skipper of the Esimit Europa 2 yacht.

The Esimit Europa 2 yacht sails under the flag of the European Union, is registered in Cyprus, a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco, competes for the Slovenian Sailing Federation and on board joins sailors from 7 different European countries. It is under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and endorsed by Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament. Its main sponsor is the global energy company Gazprom, while BMW is the official partner.
