Asking the Governor for Help in Search for DeKalb County Shooter

Posted: Updated:

Nearly two weeks ago, two men were shot at a Dekalb county store where they were working.

Authorities are now asking the Governor for help. 39-year-old Matt Whitt and 24-year-old Josh Nance were both wounded August 24th at Fred's when a gunman fired shots from outside the building.  The two are in rehab recovering.

Rainsville Police Chief Charles Centers and DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris are asking Governor Robert Bentley to offer a reward to help catch the shooter. "There's a possibility this will loosen some mouths and there's a possibility that someone will come forward," Harris said.

Ellen Bell knows both victims and their families and is hoping the suspect will be caught. "I think they need to spend quite a long time in jail," Bell said.

Several businesses in Rainsville, including Fred's, are collecting donations to help the victims and their families pay medical bills. Anyone with information about this crime should call the DeKalb County Sheriff's office.
