Tuesday morning, the University of Alabama in Huntsville installed their sixth president, Dr. Robert Altenkirch. The event was held in the Pei Ling Chan Auditorium in the Business Administration Building.
Dr. Altenkirch was hired by the University of Alabama Board of Trustees in September 2011. He also previously served as president of the New Jersey Institute of Technology. During his tenure NJIT's research program doubled in size and student enrollment reached the largest in the university's history.
"I am pleased to be at UA-Huntsville and in the Huntsville community. This is really an exciting environment and we are very much proud to be part of it," Dr. Altenkirch said.
Tuesday's installation ceremony is part of UAHuntsville's convocation, a day that marks the beginning of the academic year.
