There was a changing of the guard Tuesday morning on Redstone Arsenal. General Ann Dunwoody, the Commander of the Army Material Command transferred her command to General Dennis Via.

Dunwoody is the Army's first female four star General. She's served in the Army for 37 years and will retire August the 15th at a ceremony in Washington DC.

Dunwoody says she has been proud to serve in the Huntsville community. "For decades this community has been a proud center of gravity for our nation's space program and now it's the proud center of gravity for the Army's global logistics mission," Dunwoody said. "Thank you for all you do for Team Redstone and for the great support your provide our men and women in uniform."

General Dunwoody's successor, General Dennis Via, says he is honored to be chosen and is ready to lead the AMC into the future. "I am confident that we will have some tough decisions to make, but I am confident in the leadership and this team we have at AMC within our Army at Redstone. We will be able to meet the challenges ahead," Via said.

General Via became the 18th Commander of the Army Material Command. He's been serving in the Army since 1980. Via is originally from Martinsville, Virginia.
