The shooting of a dog by Morgan County deputies is sparking a huge controversy on social media sites.
Last Thursday Morgan County drug agents served a search warrant at a Decatur apartment on Cedar Lake Road. While entering the property Sheriff Ana Franklin says a dog at the home attacked officers leaving the agents no choice but to shoot and kill the animal. "This is unfortunate, I am as big a dog lover" Franklin said.
John Wyker and his two friends Nicklas Armor and Adam Henderson were arrested during the drug bust and charged with possession of marijuana. Since the drug bust dozens of people including Wyker have complained on social media sites about what they call police brutality. "I think it's very wrong what they did and I am very upset and I haven't slept since this has happened. I've had nightmares since this happened and I haven't been able to go to sleep and I think justice needs to be done for this poor animal" Wyker said.
Sheriff Ana Franklin says her team of drug agents did what they had to do to protect themselves. "I am angered that repeatedly drug dealers use dogs to protect their residence. It puts us in the position to use whatever force is needed to make sure my agents are not bitten or attacked" Franklin said. The sheriff says she is considering taking legal actions against people spreading what she calls false information about her and her officers on Facebook.
