Candidates Set for Mayoral Races

Posted: Updated:

A last minute filing has kicked Decatur's mayoral race up a notch. Gail Busbey, the city's former chief financial officer wants to unseat the man who had her fired. The 66 year old qualified for the race late Tuesday afternoon.

Incumbent Mayor Don Stanford had Busbey removed from office in 2009.

Former Mayor Don Kyle, Attorney Carl Cole, and small business owner Kevin Penn Sr. are also vying for the office.

In Huntsville, Mayor Tommy Battle is trying to keep his office. He's running against former mayor Loretta Spencer and Jackie Reed, a fixture at city council meetings in the Rocket City.

Madison Mayor Paul Finley will not seek another term. That leaves the door open for Troy Trulock and Don Palmer.

Mickey Haddock, John Hargett, Billy Ray Simpson, and recently retired police chief Rick Simpson are seeking election in Florence. Current mayor Bobby Irons is not seeking re-election.

In Tuscumbia, Mayor Bill Shoemaker is hoping to serve his city for a third term. He will face off with fire chief David Cole and businessman Kerry Underwood.

Municipal elections are scheduled for August 28th across the Tennessee Valley.
