Woman Killed in Campground Stabbing

Posted: Updated:

Lauderdale County investigators are looking for answers after a woman was stabbed to death early Friday morning at the Brush Creek Campground around 4:30 a.m.

It was the second time police were called to the campground. A few hours before the fatal incident, a man was stabbed at the same camp site.

Jackie Behel and his wife had been camping in the quiet park for weeks, but it was far from peaceful at the campground Friday morning.

"They came over and knocked on the door and told us to call an ambulance," said Behel.

The Behel's discovered that Kenneth Parrish had been stabbed just before midnight. He was taken to ECM hospital where he is currently listed in fair condition.

"I bring my grand kids down here, and nothing like this should be going on in the park," said Behel.

However, hours later, around 4:30 a.m., another violent attack happened and two more people were stabbed.

"The first altercation started over money and had been going on for some time now," said Lauderdale County Investigator Travis Clemons. "The second altercation stemmed from the first altercation."

Investigators said that 20 year old Savannah Parrish and 21 year old Raymond Gibson got in to an argument after Savannah's relative, Kenneth, was stabbed earlier in the night.

The fight escalated ending with both being stabbed.

"It is a tragedy," said Clemons. "There's other family members that are going to be hurting real bad over this, and it's just crazy. It shouldn't have happened."

Both were taken to ECM Hospital where Savannah was pronounced dead just before 6 a.m. Friday morning.

Gibson was released from the hospital Friday afternoon, taken in to custody and locked up on separate charges. He is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

The case will be presented to the next grand jury.
