Steven Tyler Announces American Idol Exit - FOX 54 WZDX – Huntsville News, Weather and Sports

Steven Tyler has decided to depart from his role as judge on "American Idol". 

Referring to the show as his "mistress", Tyler says it's time for him to let go and return to his first love, his band Aerosmith.  He says, "Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it... Now, it's time to bring rock back."

The shows creator, Simon Fuller says he was proud to have the Rock Star grace Idol's stage and understands his desire to get back to his life as a singer.  Tyler served as a judge for the 10th and 11th seasons of Idol.
